Thank a Nurse - The DAISY Award
WHAT: An ongoing recognition program honoring the skillful and compassionate care nurses provide.
WHY: DAISY was started by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications of ITP in 1999. Their deep appreciation for the skill and compassion shown to Pat and his family by his nurses prompted them to start the DAISY Award program to show appreciation to nurses in a meaningful and special way.
HOW: Honorees are recommended by patients, families and colleagues and are chosen by a committee at UNC Health Rockingham.
DAISY Award recipients receive a certificate, DAISY award pin, and a hand-carved sculpture. Awards are given quarterly, and the recipient’s nominator is invited to attend the presentation.

Thank a Support Service Member of Our Staff - The BEE Award
WHAT: An ongoing recognition program that honors and celebrates the care and/or service provided by support personnel who greatly contribute to the patient experience.
WHO: Unit Assistants, Nursing Assistants, Respiratory Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Lab Technicians, X-Ray technologists, Cardiovascular Staff, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Techs, Environmental Services Staff, Food & Nutrition Staff, etc. Anyone who supports nursing services in the care of patients may be recommended for the BEE Award.
WHY: Just as the BEEs can’t exist without the DAISY, nor can the DAISY exist without the BEEs, it takes our entire team to provide excellent care.
HOW: Honorees are recommended by patients, families, colleagues, and chosen by a committee at UNC Health Rockingham.
