UNC Health Rockingham Appoints Four New Members

to its Board of Directors


UNC Health Rockingham is proud to announce the appointment of four accomplished professionals to its Board of Directors: Mary Bus, Dr. Joel E. Clark, Jodi Lester and Dr. Peggy McNaull. Each brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and dedication to advancing our mission of delivering exceptional care to the community. Their diverse backgrounds in healthcare, leadership, and community engagement will help guide UNC Health Rockingham as we continue to innovate and serve with excellence.

Mary Bus serves as the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for UNC Health, having previously held positions as the Vice President of System Affiliations and Integration, Program Administrator for the UNC Health Administrative Fellowships and Executive Director for System Affiliations and Integration.

Bus supports the growth and operations of a wide range of UNC Health enterprise services including pharmacy, supply chain, information technology, imaging, laboratory services, post-acute care, and real estate/facilities. In previous positions at UNC Health, she led efforts to strengthen relationships with community hospitals across North Carolina, supporting new partnerships and acquisitions, and managing day-to-day collaboration with executive teams and governing boards statewide. She has supported UNC Health Rockingham since it became part of UNC Health in 2018.

Bus previously worked with the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois at Chicago in Laboratory and Clinical Research Business Management positions. She holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Joel E. Clark is the pastor of The New Saint Paul Baptist Church in Eden, North Carolina, where he has served faithfully for over 17 years. As a leader, Clark has overseen many major accomplishments including debt­ free land acquisition. During his tenure, the church has spearheaded impactful outreach initiatives, such as clothing giveaways, international missions to Haiti and South Africa, and community-focused programs.

Clark answered the call to ministry in 2002.  He earned a Doctorate in Divinity from Living Epistle Bible College and another Doctorate in Theology from Living Epistle Bible College 2.0. He also served as an instructor and dean of the college. He founded Anchor 2 Grace Academy, an online Bible institute dedicated to teaching kingdom principles for everyday living.

Clark has been a devoted husband for twenty-eight years and is the proud father of two sons. He is also an entrepreneur, author and nonprofit founder.  Known for his love of truth and compassion for people, Dr. Clark's mission is to serve and nurture others.

Jodi Lester is a 30-year resident of Rockingham County, small business owner, and passionate community advocate.  She brings a heart for service, a deep understanding of the needs of our local families, and a commitment to building a healthier, more resilient Rockingham County.

In addition to being a local Realtor for nineteen years, Lester and her husband have owned and operated SERVPRO of Rockingham County for the last fifteen years. From house fires and floods to storm and biohazard damage, they walk beside people during their most vulnerable times. Lester knows what it means to lead with empathy, act quickly under pressure, and make decisions that impact lives.

Her business vision is grounded in collaboration, community, and care. Beyond her professional work, Lester believes in showing up where it counts - whether its supporting other local businesses, food drives, mentoring young people navigating their career paths, or sitting at the table to help guide the direction of critical community institutions like UNC Health Rockingham. 

Peggy McNaull, MD is UNC Health’s Chief Medical and Quality Officer. She works closely with the CMOs at each entity, chairs the system Quality Improvement Oversight Committee that governs UNC Health’s quality and safety programs, and leads the Hospital Quality and Innovation, Care Redesign, Physician Advisor, and Central Credentialing teams.

McNaull has a long history with UNC extending back to her residency and more recently includes several significant leadership positions at UNC Hospitals and the UNC School of Medicine. She began her career in healthcare as a nurse serving in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. She earned her MD from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She came to UNC for her residency, where she was chief resident before completing a Pediatric Anesthesiology fellowship at UNC and a Pediatric Cardiovascular Anesthesiology fellowship program at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. McNaull served as department chair at the University of Virigina before returning back to her roots at UNC.

McNaull is a national leader in pediatric anesthesiology. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology and currently serves as the Society’s President. She is involved in the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) and was recently selected by the board of directors to serve as the Vice Chair of the Advanced Exam Committee.
