Breanna Evans, a health unit coordinator at UNC Rockingham Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, was honored with the BEE award for Extraordinary Patient Care. She was nominated by a coworker for her willingness to always go above and beyond when it comes to her patients. One such story shared about Evans detailed her efforts to provide one of her long-time patients with a meal they had been wanting. After getting approval from his nursing team, Bre picked up the meal and paid for it out of her pocket when the patient had no way to pay themselves. The nominator described how this small act of kindness put a smile on the patient’s face for days.

When asked what this award means to her, Evans stated, “Receiving the award is a big accomplishment – to be recognized, valued and honored means so much to me.”  Evans has always had a passion for helping others and has enjoyed over five years in her current role.  She will begin classes in the fall to further her education and become a registered nurse.

“Bre is one of those rare individuals who always ready and willing to do anything she is asked or thinks will help,” said Sara Hazlewood, Director at UNC Rockingham Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. “She is always happy and our patients love her. She can never be acknowledged enough for how much we appreciate her.”

The BEE award is presented throughout the year to honor the extraordinary care provided by non-nursing support staff that go above and beyond to make an impact outside their daily duties. The support of other care providers is the foundation upon which a patient’s healthcare team can maintain phenomenal care and advocacy. Just as the Daisy cannot survive without the Bee, the nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by other healthcare professionals.
