Social Worker Taylor Eggleston Receives BEE Award For Extraordinary Patient Care

EDEN, N.C., May 16, 2024 — During Hospital Week 2024, UNC Health Rockingham Social Worker Taylor Eggleston was honored with the BEE Award for Exceptional Staff in recognition for her extraordinary work to support patients in need. Her nomination came after working diligently for months for a child with complex needs who was being held in the emergency department until a behavioral health placement could be secured.

Eggleston’s nominator shared, “For months, she worked daily with the child’s family, mental health services and many other services to help this family. She researched, made calls, and sent emails, ensuring additional testing was complete. Finally, because of Taylor’s hard work, patience and determination, a safe place was found for the child.”

Eggleston, who holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, has been with the hospital’s care management team for three years. She works with patients, families, and hospital departments to assist with placements for those in need of nursing facilities or psychosocial care. Eggleston shared that she finds her work challenging and rewarding when she works with a family in a tough situation and through conversation with them identifies and secure the resources that meet their health needs.

When asked about her desire to work in care management, Eggleston said, “I never considered that I would be recognized for my work – I just have a servant’s heart and a desire to help. I like knowing that people are taken care of especially when they are feeling helpless, hopeless or sad.”

The BEE award is presented throughout the year to honor the extraordinary care provided by non-nursing support staff that go above and beyond to make an impact outside their daily duties. The support of other care providers is the foundation upon which a patient’s healthcare team can maintain phenomenal care and advocacy. Just as the Daisy cannot survive without the Bee, the nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by other healthcare professionals.
