Childbirth Classes & Support
Partner with childbirth educators at UNC Rockingham Health Care to prepare for the birth of your baby.
Take advantage of free prenatal education classes available to expecting parents and siblings. These monthly classes take place during evenings and weekends to fit your schedule. All classes meet in the downstairs classroom of UNC Rockingham hospital.
Preparing for Childbirth/Lamaze
Get ready for labor and delivery of your baby at UNC Rockingham. You and your partner will learn what to expect during different stages of labor and delivery. The class covers:
- What to expect during labor
- Birthing process
- Pain management and comfort techniques
- Postpartum self-care and emotional changes
- Basic newborn care, including diaper changing and bathing
This class includes a tour of the UNC Rockingham Birthing Center and a take-home childbirth handbook.
As a breastfeeding-friendly hospital, UNC Rockingham supports breastfeeding. Attend our class to learn the foundations of breastfeeding before your baby arrives. The class goes over:
- Benefits of breastfeeding your baby
- Breastfeeding do's and don'ts
- How to start breastfeeding
- What to expect after you go home
Big Brother/Big Sister – Sibling Class
Bringing home a new baby can change your family dynamics. Help prepare your children for a new addition to your family with a sibling education class. This class is ideal for children 3 to 6 years old. Parents or guardians must stay with their children during the class.
You and your child will get to see what the Birthing Center looks like during a class tour. And your child gets a take-home activity book.
Learn CPR rescue skills for an infant or small child. During this class, you’ll explore topics, such as:
- Choking signs
- How to perform chest compressions and rescue breathing
- Methods to avoid sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)
- Ways to remove an object from the airway
